As a part of our larger commitment to learning, Lincoln Park Zoo offers a variety of youth programs for kids and teens to grow their passion for animals and nature. Our approach prioritizes creating an environment that’s fun, collaborative, and inclusive. Scholarships are available for most of our programs, as part of our commitment to serving everyone who wants to participate.

LEAP: Learn, Explore, and Play

Encourage curiosity in nature with active sessions designed for the youngest explorers, ages 2–4, to learn through play.

Interested in doing more nature play at home? Join Lincoln Park Zoo’s Child and Family Learning team for a morning of nature play!

Malott Family R.O.A.R Corps

Are you a student in grades 5–8 who is passionate about protecting the planet? Learn to make a difference through Research, Observation, Action, and Restoration!

Play! at Farm-in-the-Zoo

From sorting pinecones to digging in smooth seeds, children ages 1–5 will explore the sights, smells, and textures that nature has to offer during this free, open-ended experience.

For Teens

Malott Family Zoo Intern Program

Chicago high school students, ages 15–18, work as interpreters on zoo grounds, educating guests about animal science and conservation during a seven-week, paid internship. Applicants must be entering grades 10–12 or their freshman year of college.

Malott Family Research Apprenticeship Program

Chicago high school students ages 16–18 spend seven weeks working alongside zoo ��ֱ�� to conduct authentic scientific research during this rigorous, paid apprenticeship. Applicants must be entering grades 11–12 or their freshman year of college.

Conservation Ambassadors Board

Chicago high school students develop their leadership skills while contributing to the zoo’s public conservation programming by planning special events and outreach initiatives for their peers. This program runs twice a year during the fall and spring semesters and participants receive hourly pay through After School Matters. Applicants must be ages 16–18 and attend high school in Chicago.

Camp Teen Volunteer

Chicago high school students, ages 13–18, spend five weeks assisting with the day-to-day running of Conservation Camp for grades preK–8. This is an unpaid, service-learning opportunity for students entering grades 9–12 or their freshman year of college.
